Visitor Information

In order to maintain our patient's security, safety and comfort, we ask all visitors to: 

• Obtain a visitor's pass at the Information Desk, with a limit of two visitors at any one time. Visitor passes are valid only for the date and area displayed and must be worn at all times while inside the hospital. Please return your visitor's pass to the Information Desk when leaving the facility.
• Check with the patient's nurse for special restrictions.
• Keep noise to a minimum, to avoid disrupting other patients.
• Limit visiting to the patient's room.
• Refrain from smoking anywhere in the hospital. It is a violation of the Smoke-free Illinois Act.
• Limit the number of visitors to no more than two at a time in a patient room.  

Visiting Hours 

Please limit the number of visitors to no more than two at a time in the patient room. All other visitors must wait in the main lobby until other visitors leave. Visitors may be asked to wait outside the patient's room while care is being provided.

Because rest is vital for recovery, we have established visiting schedules. The visiting hours at Kindred Chicago Central Hospital are as follows:

Medical Surgical Units 
Visiting hours are daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

ICU/Special Care Unit
Visitors to the ICU/Special Care Unit should check with the nurse prior to visiting. Visiting hours for the ICU/Special Care Unit are as follows:

• 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
• 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Visiting with Children
Children may visit only if free from communicable illnesses and have not been recently exposed to a communicable illness. An adult family member must supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and the safety of our patients. The hospital reserves the right to restrict children from visiting if there are medical indications.

Infection Control
We ask that all visitors observe general hygiene practices when entering and leaving patient rooms. This includes disinfecting hands using the sanitizer dispensers conveniently placed around the hospital.

For visitors of patients who are under special infection-control precautions or isolation, please read the isolation signs, check with the patient's nurse, and make sure you understand and cooperate with the required precautions.  

Please refrain from visiting if you have a cough, runny nose and/or congestion, sore throat, body aches, unusual weakness or tiredness, fever, rash, open sores, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or exposure to any communicable diseases such as chicken pox, measles or mumps.

Cafeteria 

The cafeteria is located in the basement level of the hospital, and is open to all visitors/guests.

• Breakfast is served Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 1:00 p.m.

Vending machines are available 24 hours a day and are located on the first floor. 

Parking 

Free parking is available in the lot to the west side of the hospital on N. Karlov Avenue. Handicapped parking spaces are available. To exit the parking lot, visitors will need to obtain a parking token from the front desk.    

Security 

For our patient's safety, all doors are locked after 8 p.m. Please use the doorbell at the front for admission after hours. The security staff can provide escorts to and from cars. 

Family Concerns 

Family members may request to meet with clinical staff to discuss their loved one's current condition and progress and to answer questions. Patient conferences may be scheduled by contacting case management. 

Post-Hospital Care 

If your doctor has determined that your loved one no longer needs the specialized services of our hospital but still requires medical care, you may be discharged to a skilled nursing facility, a rehabilitation center or to home care. Our discharge planner is happy to help arrange for the services you may need after leaving Kindred Chicago Central Hospital.
